There is now information on Estonia's manors on the internet - today many of them have become hotels. The painter was born on the Nehat (Nehatu) estate, and his father received the Teibel (or Taibel, Estonian Taebla) forester's house in 1856. At the age of 9 the boy started high school in Tallinn.
Nehatu, located in the parish of Karusen, was part of the "knight's manor" Paatsalu (see photo ), which belongs to the parish of Hanila. Nehatu is also very close to the "manor" Vatla (see photo , also in the parish of Karusen). Some photos from the village of Nehatu are preserved in the report " In search of Nehatu " from 1999 - it is called "estate"; Pictures of Vatla (called Vatla Mansion) are also included. The Nehatu estate, originally one-story, was demolished in 1960 and has been replaced by a two-story house with apartments (see photo ).
The "manor" Taebla belongs to the parish Lääne-Ligula and is very close to the town of Hapsalu (east of Hapsalu). The "manor" Taebla burned down in 1991. Here is an old photo (by Raivo Kalve).
